This fresh collaboration between the three-striped street fashion goliath and the young, progressive designer made its debut on the latter’s Spring 2016/2017 runway show. The 84-piece collection features monochrome, unisex apparels that span across hoodies, t-shirts, shorts, tracksuits, sweatshirts and three footwear styles.

The coupling of adidas and Alexander Wang sees the coalescing of two distinctive brands that somehow positions an offbeat style that is subversive, irreverent and bold. There is this sense of deconstruction and questioning of widely accepted ideas in fashion – especially with Wang’s iconic inversion of the adidas symbol in this collection.
What’s there not to love?
Wang tells Vogue that “[…] to invest what’s on the surface and add a layer of subversion and also to toy with the idea of what’s authentic and what’s fake” is the main drivers of this capsule collection.

As of now, amongst adidas’s list of esteemed collaborators like Stella McCartney, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto and Kanye West, this partnership with Alexander Wang propels the iconic three-stripes into a dynamic sphere that appeals to the new generation. This serves to prove that the cultural significance that associated adidas with their roots in the past can also invoke the present to form innovative designs.
Encapsulated in their video lookbook shot by Juergen Teller for Vogue, subversion of rules and convention is foregrounded in this collection. The culture of leaks and fakes and the reseller market is brought to light in a VHS-inspired video featuring Rocco Ritchie, aka Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s 16-year-old son.
The pieces were only available in pop-up trucks around NYC the past two days, and it will be making stops in London and Tokyo after.
Next spring, the complete line will be sold at Adidas Originals and Alexander Wang stores, e-comm sites and select retailers.
