Famously known as members of rising synth-pop band Disco Hue, lead singer Sherlyn Leo and synth player Auzaie Zie have had quite a memorable 2016, thanks to the stunning success of their band’s acclaimed debut EP ‘Arcade’.
From their radio and chart success on Spotify, to big showcases at major festivals like Baybeats and Neon Lights – Disco Hue is undoubtedly one of local music’s breakthrough acts in the recent year.
Outside of their band, Sherlyn and Zie are also engaged in a plethora of creative projects – with Sherlyn starting up her own R&B endeavour under the moniker of Veronica, and Zie being an electronic producer known as THIEVVES, and an in-demand music video director.
In that vein, the duo also recently teamed-up to bring you a haunting new single titled ‘Bout U’. Naturally, the song is a distinct departure from their bubblier pop exploits – going for something a little darker and slower with this lush number. Anchored in the theme of unrequited love, ‘Bout U’ is a fabulous track that showcases two familiar faces in very different dimensions.
We had a little chit-chat with Veronica x Thievves about their new debut single, ‘Bout U’.
Tell us about the new single. What is the song about?
The song is about a complicated relationship. You don’t know how to go about it and you imagine all kinds of scenarios.
How did the song come about?
The both of us write a lot of songs for our band disco hue. Instead of throwing away and putting it aside, we decided to do it together as a duet, and it works because we’re both familiar with each other.
Is Veronica x Thievves in the midst of making more music?
When we set out to write, sometimes it heads into a different direction. So yeah we still have some songs up our sleeves. On the side note, we like this genre so much that its in some of disco hue’s upcoming album.
