Pop-up Noise:The Great Singapore Replay


Rediscover Singapore’s classical hits being remade by Singapore’s established young music talents! Pop-Up: Noise: The Great Singapore Replay  provides a platform to rediscover Singapore’s classical hits being remade by young talented local musicians. This aims to invoke nostalgia of music from yesteryears. The collaboration between Temasek and National Arts Council (NAC) was initiated to encourage young Singaporeans to develop and showcase their musical talents.

Temasek is excited to bring about this intergenerational agenda as an interactive program in Singapore. At the same time,  NAC wants to reconnect with the earlier generation, thereby reaching a wider audience. Simultaneously, to tell the Singapore story through music. Through this partnership, Temasek and NAC are confident that that it will bring Singaporeans together by reliving the Singapore’s classic hits while giving the young musicians an opportunity to interpret the pastime popular songs.

To create awareness and interaction for this programme, Pop-Up: Noise: The Great Singapore Replay have set up a roving jukebox voting booth at 5 locations from now to 18 June 2017. Netizens are invited to vote for their favourite classic hits from a curated list of 25 popular tunes from the 1960s to 2000s. The votes can also be casted online at http://www.thegreatsingaporereplay.sg from now to 22 June 2017. Online voters will be able to collect Replay tokens. The voter with the highest replay tokens will win an iPad Mini 4 with a 3-month Spotify Premium subscription.

The top 10 songs receiving the highest number of votes will be remade by 10 pairs of young musicians. An emerging artist will be matched with an established artist. For instance, fellow singer Joie Tan, 22 is paired with singer Sara Wee, 31 from 53A.  Click here to find out more about the other pairs. Webisodes will be aired weekly to feature the collaborations between the artists. The first webisode will be aired on 13 July. Calling out to all aspiring musicians! You can submit your own rendition of a classic Singapore song from 1960 to 2000 to Youtube. Stand a chance to win $500. Winner will also get to perform the cover of the song ‘live’ during the final showcase on 9 September 2017.
