Instagram introduced Instagram stories around a week ago and it’s glorious.
According to the Instagram blog it;
“A new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day”
“As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.”
“You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed.”
I’m assuming the word ‘new’ would be referring to an entirely new concept on the app that is not on other applications such as, I don’t know, snapchat?
But I’m not bashing what Instagram has created, in fact I adore Instagram Stories. Thats right.
It took me days to feel the vibes of it, but as much as I want to be a critic about it, I’m low-key obsessed with it.
There are already heaps of article comparing Snapchat and Instagram stories. Most bring in technological arguments, which I neither understand nor am interested in.
The question here isn’t where I parade my daily life for the world to see. The decision lies in how I should use these features to the best of their abilities.
Snapchat will still reign for me because of the glorious filter I religiously use. The gold butterfly filter and flower crown filter makes me feel Hollywood ready, while the other filters like the old lady filter and photo face swap adds a little colour to my life.
With Bitmoji now available on Snapchat, it brought personalisation to another level. You are even able to find Bitmoji with your friends in it if they have the application as well.
If you are like me and adore celebrity news, I mean I follow heaps of celebrities and other influencers on Snapchat just to keep up with their lives and get news (think Kim Kardashian exposing Taylor Swift). However, finding the Snapchat user of the influencers, which is not my ideal situation. In fact snapchat has a pretty terrible user interface.
The best (and easiest) way to get connected to an influencers is usually via their social media sites, Facebook, Twitter and of course, Instagram. I’m sure you know where I am going with this.
So, let’s get back on track with Instagram stories.
Yes, there are practically no fancy filters, which can be worrying for some if your life has depended on it (because mine kinda does).
On the flip side, you can now follow/stalk your favourite influencers on a more intimate level. Trust me, most will use this feature to keep up to date with the current trends. Without having to leave a single app, which sounds pretty darn good for my lazy fingers.
Another positive or negative depending on how you view this, is that you are finally able to hear their voices which can be very exciting if you are like me. I have dreamt of putting a voice to a face and it is now a reality.
Also, your current followers are now able to keep up with you without opening another application to see your Instagram updates in motion. Perfect if you’re lazy or your 16GB iPhone is running out of storage. Filters or no filters, stories on Instagram will still be used for those who are still deciding if Snapchat is worth it (hint: it is).
So whether you prefer Snapchat or Instagram story, it doesn’t matter because now you’re able to spread more of yourself over more applications. However, now we will all be faced with another question, where do I upload my selfies and lunch updates on? Choose wisely, or don’t? I know I won’t.
