“I hope the songs relate to people in different way, as people put their own meaning to them,” says frontwoman Stephanie Lim of local three-piece band HubbaBubbas. “The songs don’t just belong to me anymore, and it’s gratifying to know that they are doing something good somewhere.”
An eclectic fusion of rock, pop, R&B and jazz, HubbaBubbas’ debut EP Amy(gdala), took 2 years to create and produce. “If we had kept persisting on perfection, we probably wouldn’t have released the EP yet. It was a reminder to know when to let go.” Indeed, assembling a song is no easy feat. For Steph, who is currently studying in NUS, she finds it most productive to write them on her notes app in the bathroom. “Words have a feeling attached to them,” she explains, “and trying to write with integrity to the emotions felt is a whole challenge by itself.” In our weekly featurette, Steph explains how “the band wants to emulate the feeling you get when you discover that your favourite song has multiple layers.”

You can listen to HubbaBubba’s EP Amy(gdala) on Spotify and purchase the entirety of it on iTunes. Say hi to them at Five Bar too where they’ll be performing every Thursday!

You can also find them on Facebook here.
