5 Podcasts to Listen to While Commuting

Remember the days when podcasts weren’t so widely popular? Well, they are certainly doing way better than they did in the past. I’ve also come to realise that podcasts are the perfect go-to for long and boring train rides. If you’ve gotten too tired of that Spotify playlist, or you feel too burdened carrying a book around with you, perhaps you can try listening to a podcast for a change.

Here’s 5 interesting podcasts that will kill the dullness of commuting:

1) Mystery Show

Topic: General Knowledge

& Where To Find It: Gimlet Media

If you think Mystery Show solves murder cases involving trails of blood and what not, you’re not quite right. Hosted by Starlet Kine, every episode solves a minor mystery that can’t simply be Googled if you’re interested to find out more about it.

Kine’s mysteries are quite different, she navigates through people and things. She strays from the usual, making you want to know more about certain things you never thought you’d be interested in. Every episode keeps you entertained, wondering what out of the norm mysteries she’ll bring.

2) Call Your Girlfriend

Topic: Pop Culture & Where To Find It: Call Your Girlfriend

Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast for long-term besties who are looking for something to spice up their every lives. It sees Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow as long-distance best friends who have a little chat bi-weekly to discuss about the intricacies of pop culture, what’s happening in the politics and also some unforgiving workplace drama.

If you’re in need of some real life talk, give Call Your Girlfriend a try. I promise it won’t disappoint.

3) Freakonomics

Topic: Culture & Where To Find It: Freakonomics.com

Freakonomics is an American public radio programme that is actually a spin-off of the book written by award-winning journalist Stephen J. Dubner and award-winning economist Steven D. Levitt in 2005. It discusses a whole lot of socioeconomic problems that the world is facing today for a general audience.

Freaknonomics became so popular as a public radio programme that it turned into a podcast for those who aren’t able to tune into it. It’s popularity kept growing amongst the masses, and is now one of the top few podcasts on iTunes.

The authors said that Freakonomics analysed the real meaning behind “cheating teachers, bizarre baby names, and self-dealing Realtors”. These are things that seem so common in our everyday lives, but are barely explored.

4) Serial

Topic: Crime

& Where To Find It: Serial

Serial is a perfect podcast for the mystery lovers as the host shares various real-life crime stories that would send chills down your spine. In a bid to search for and surface new evidence, the host retraces the steps of those crimes.

In its first season that was wildly popular, Serial goes back in time to investigate the 1999 murder case of high school student Hae Min Lee and her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed who was convicted despite claiming his innocence till today. Heart stopping and fascinating, Serial absorbs you into its world of full of mysteries.
